Facial Recognition - Gender/Emotions

The above pictures are exactly the same except for slight alterations to the shading of the lips and eyes.  Amazing how that can completely change the apparent gender of the person.

On a similar subject I've heard it pointed out that the Western and Eastern emoticons differ in their focus.  That might seem trivial, but it just may hint out what signalling features particular ethnicities have evolved to see and use to communicate emotional states.  Notice the Western focus on the mouth as the variable and the Eastern focus on eyes:
